Dr. Ong Kian Ming was elected as a first-time Member of the Malaysian Federal Parliament for P102 Serdang in the May 2013 General Election. He represents the Democratic Action Party (DAP) which is part of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Opposition coalition. He joined DAP in 2012 and has served DAP in various capacities, formerly as Election Strategist during the 2013 General Election and currently as the Assistant Director for Political Education.
Prior to becoming a Member of Parliament, Dr. Ong was a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Policy Science and a regional consultant for the Blue Ocean Strategy Regional Centre at UCSI University. He was also formerly a policy analyst for SEDAR (Social Economic Development and Research Institute) and INSAP (Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research). Prior to that, he was an associate consultant for the Boston Consulting Group in Kuala Lumpur.
Dr. Ong was a Fulbright Scholar and holds a PhD in Political Science from Duke University in USA. He also has a Masters in Economics from Cambridge University and a degree in Economics from the London School of Economics. Prior to that he was an ASEAN Scholar in Singapore and completed his “O” and “A” levels in Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College respectively. He attended primary and secondary school in La Salle Petaling Jaya, Selangor until Form 3. He was born in Kuala Lumpur and considers himself a PJ boy.
